The initiates and active members of Louisiana Iota volunteer with various organizations in the Shreveport-Bossier area. A few of the tasks that we enjoy as volunteers are building houses, visiting nursing homes, teaching and entertaining children, and wrapping gifts.
One of our favorite projects is “Building on Higher Ground,” which is sponsored by The Fuller Center for Housing, and Shreveport-Bossier Community Renewal Center. “Building on Higher Ground” was initiated last December to build houses for Hurricane Katrina victims. Since December, ten houses have been started and three houses are now occupied. This year, Louisiana Iota will continue to volunteer with the “Building on Higher Ground” project.
Another favorite of AEDers is Sci-Port Discovery Center. Throughout the semester, we volunteer at Sci-Port. We always find that we have just as much fun as the children.
Alpha Epsilon Delta enjoys volunteering and partnering with various other organizations, such as The Providence House and Roseview Nursing Center.
As of February 2007, AED Louisiana Iota has partnered with the ReVitalize! Foundation. This non-profit organization was founded by Dr. Ravish Patwardhan, a local Neurosurgeon in the Shreveport-Bossier area, and serves as a information center for patients to go to understand more about their particular diagnosis. AED members have truly enjoyed their experiences as ReVitalize! volunteers, and we look forward to having the opportunity to do many great things with ReVitalize! in the future.
